Follow Friday(3)

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:
Question: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don't like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

Here are a few pet peeves I have when it comes to books:

1) Too Much Romance- I don't like a lot of Romance in my books. It can be in the storyline but it can't really be the main theme. I try to stick to reading book with interesting premises that involve fantasy and uniqueness.

2) Good Writing- Anything a writer writes has to be well written. If I don't like how an author writes or their writing style I can barely read the book. I read twilight and that is one of the things that bothered me was that Stephanie Meyer doesn't have the greatest of writing skills.

3) Irrelevant Info- I don't like irrelevant infromation in my books. If it has nothing to do with the story line than it shouldn't be put into the novel. I mean an author shouldn't be writing to expand the word count of their novels. They should be writing for quality and not quantity.

4) Depth- I want depth and meaning in the character I am reading about. If there isn't any than what is the point of reading the book. I hate characters with no depth and feeling.

Those are the pet peeves I could come up with. Sorry about the rant. Let me know what your pet peeves are by linking me up to yours in the comments.  =]

Thanks for Visiting and Happy Reading!!!

-Michael

  3. I agree with all of your points. Too much romance, no matter steamy or not, is bad for the novel, and readers.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy weekends!

  4. I agree about the writing. I will never understand why Twilight is so popular. Stephanie Meyer's writing is just awful. I suppose it was the first PR book to become really popular. Vampire Academy is so much better, and it is really well-written. New follower :)

  6. I totally understand for Too Much Romance... It's very difficult for me too. Or if so, we must have an amazing plot.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'm a new follower

  7. I agree. The characters in a book need to be three dimensional. Especially the protags because as readers we're stuck with them for the entire length of the novel.

  8. Oh, the irrelevance kills me! Good point there. I try to keep that out of my books, and hopefully I succeed. :)

  9. Quality over quantity!! I find this is happening during sequels quite often lately - it seems like the entire sequel is merely fluff filler, because the ending has to be a dramatic cliffhanger to lead us into the third book. Soooo frustrating!

  12. I agree with you about the importance of good writing. I did struggle with Twilight for some of the same reasons (http://thebookaddictnet.blogspot.com/2011/11/series-in-review-twilight-saga-by.html) but I did like her short story that I read in Prom Nights From Hell. I think it may be an instance of sticking to a genre or story length that an author is better at.

  13. Hi Michael! Just what every author wants to hear hehe I would hate for you to critique my writing of which btw I have next to no skill , whatsoever .

  14. Including a lot of irrelevant material is usually a sign that the author did a bunch of research for the book and is bound and determined to make sure that time and effort doesn't go to waste. But in trying to do so, they usually make their book worse. Which I suppose is its own kind of waste.

  16. I definitely agree with well written! All of my absolute favourite books have brilliant writing. If the writing is choppy or doesn't flow well, forget it! The writing is usually what makes the book for me :)

  20. I have a pretty fine line between enough romance and too much, and once a book crosses it I start losing interest fast. Great post!
