Waiting on Wednesday: Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3)
Hardcover, 608 pages
Expected publication: October 2nd 2012 by Hyperion Book CH

Synopsis:

Annabeth is terrified. Just when she’s about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo’s fantastical creation doesn’t appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that’s only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close— the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth’s biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he’s now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.

Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare. . . .

In The Son of Neptune, Percy, Hazel, and Frank met in Camp Jupiter, the Roman equivalent of Camp Halfblood, and traveled to the land beyond the gods to complete a dangerous quest. The third book in the Heroes of Olympus series will unite them with Jason, Piper, and Leo. But they number only six--who will complete the Prophecy of Seven?

The Greek and Roman demigods will have to cooperate in order to defeat the giants released by the Earth Mother, Gaea. Then they will have to sail together to the ancient land to find the Doors of Death. What exactly are the Doors of Death? Much of the prophesy remains a mystery. . . . With old friends and new friends joining forces, a marvelous ship, fearsome foes, and an exotic setting, The Mark of Athena promises to be another unforgettable adventure by master storyteller Rick Riordan.

Why I am Waiting:
Okay I have to admit I haven't read this series. But I really need to. Percy Jackson was just so good. I am hoping that I can kick my butt into gear and get this series started. I so really can't wait to read it. It sounds so amzaing. With each new book that comes out I want to read it more and more. That is why I need to read it soon. =]

Fathomless (Fairytale Retellings, #3)
Hardcover, 304 pages
Published September 4th 2012 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

Here are are my two teasers this week:

"The powers are our greatest secret. The secret we never told anyone, not even our parents, not even our brothers. Jane's skill developed first. People called her a perspective child, but there was much more to it. Then Anne, who knew when I'd fall out of a tree house our brother Lucas made. Mine took longer. I thought maybe I didn't have one, even, when I'd turned seven and still nothing had developed. Anne and Jane pushed me, assured me that mine would be the most impressive of the three of them.

But then it wasn't.

Jane can know a person's present. Anne can know their future. And I can know their past."
-Fathomless by Jackson Pearce, Pg 13-14

"We don't want to go to the surface. We linger under the water, down deep, where it's cold; it makes us feel the most alive. Only the new girl wants to go up. Her skin is still a little pink, like it remembers the sun, whereas most of ours are pale, with places tinted the light purples, blues or greens of seashells."
-Fathomless by Jackson Pearce, Pg 20

Thanks for visiting my Teaser Tuesday this weeek.

Hope you enjoyed it. Link me up to your teasers in the comments below.

Follow Friday(23)

Gain New Blog Followers

Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:

Q: What hyped up book was worth all of the fuss?

There are definitely many hyped up books that are worth all of the fuss. But I can't name all of them so here are my favories.

The first one that comes to mind is The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. If you haven't read them yet, what is wrong with you. You definitely need to immediately. Totally worth all the fuss.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

These other two books/series are my favorite books of 2011 and 2012. They are both that amazing and totally worth the fuss in my opinion. =]

Divergent by Veronica Roth and Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Divergent (Divergent, #1)Insurgent (Divergent, #2)Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)

There are a ton more that are worth the fuss but these are the ones I would definitely start with. =]

Review: The Dragon and the Crow by T.B. McKenzie

The Dragon and the Crow
Publisher: Dragonfall Press
Pub. Date: December 2011
Pages: 311
Ebook received by author for a fair and honest review. =]

Synopsis:

A great power is rising in Arkadia; an uprising of dark magick led by a Witch who wants nothing less than chaos, terror and the King’s head on a stake. She believes in a prophecy — an ancient rhyme about a child unique within the lands; a child destined to bring back the stars and end the King’s rule forever. A child who cannot do magick at all.

My Thoughts/Review:

This was a really awesome read. I mean could you imagine if you lived in a society where everyone had magical powers and you were the only one that couldn't practice it. I would be so heartbroken and would completely be devastated. This was the premise that got me hooked into this story. In my opinion it is kind of like Harry Potter but completely opposite.

This story, from start to finish, was blended and weaved in such a way that it got me thinking a lot about it throughout my day. It changed from seen to seen to become a different book that at the turn of each page became better and better. The more this story went along the more I liked it. I really liked the main character, Brin. He is someone you really wanted to root for, a real underdog. He goes on an adventure of a life time to try and get what he has always wanted, which is obviously to become magical. Who wouldn't want to become magical when everyone else in society has the ability to.

Many different things happen in this one book. None of the characters are really trust worthy and it is hard to pick a side. I loved the major twists that happen and I really can't wait to read book 2. The one thing I didn't like about this book was that it was really long for me and some parts were uneccesary. Some parts of the book could have been shortened to get to the point. I did like some of the major aspects of this book but the inbetween parts weren't all that much need. Another thing I really did like though was the character development. It was like McKenzie took much detail and pains to portray each character and there background. I could see there personalities and lives coming alive on the page. The depth of the story and the characters was just right to picture the world and the people living in it.  If you love a good magic, powerstruggle, underdog of a story, I definitely suggest you pick up and read this book. Read the synopsis and if you like it definitely try out this book. =]

Overall, I give this book:

=]
4 out of 5 Stars

Waiting on Wednesday: Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)
Hardcover, 412 pages
Expected publication: December 11th 2012 by Razorbill

Synopsis:

In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power--brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:

Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.

Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished--and finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.

Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past--and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...

The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

"Falling Kingdoms will gut you emotionally. It will make you ache, cry, and beg for the sequel as you turn the last page. I absolutely loved it."--Julie Kagawa, New York Times bestselling author of The Iron Queen

"This triple-layered tale of bloodshed, heartbreak, and tangled court intrigue kept me turning pages very late into the night."--Lesley Livingston, award-winning author of Wondrous Strange.

Why I am Waiting?

This book is definitely one for me. I have been waiting for it ever since Penguin announced their Breathless Reads. This book has everything. Magic has been forgotten. Deadly unrest is simmering. Three Kingdoms grapple for power. Betrayals, Bargains and Battles. Four Young Adult Characters. Kingdoms will definitely Fall. I will be reading this book the moment I can get my hands on it and I really can't wait. =]
