Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.
Time Slice

My Teaser:

"For about the thousandth time, Roy reread the rules he had hastily written after arriving at Ann's house on that fateful day.

1. The TST must be in contact with your skin in order for it to work.

2. When you are in a time slice other than your own: you can see everyone/everything else, but only creatures touching a TST can also see you; creatures not touching a TST will appear dimmer than those touching a TST.

3. If you lose contact with the TST while in a different time slice, you immediately return to your home time slice.

4. If you drop the device, you return home, and the device stays behind!!

5. You are physically in the other time slice, even if other creatures can't see you. This means you disappear from your home time slice when you travel.

6. Anything you are touching or carrying when you travel goes with you.

7. IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! You can only travel to a different time slice for a limited time. Too long a time in a different slice can mess with your cells, causing "problems" Not Good!!!!!"

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either a link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your two 'teasers' in a comment here (if you don't have a blog). Thanks and Happy Reading!

I just finished this book and it was so good.

Thanks for visiting and Happy Reading. =]

Time Slice Blog Tour

Synopsis:

 An Earth Shared….
Newly retired workaholic Roy Washburn is not ready for a life of leisure. On a trip to a mall with his wife, he finds a small metal cylinder with odd markings. One nudge of the cylinder’s triangle-shaped pointer and Roy finds himself embarking on an exciting new adventure in the Time Stream. There he meets the Traveler, a tall, gangly being who shows Roy how to use the cylinder to visit other civilizations that exist on “his” Earth, each occupying a different, thin Time Slice.

A Strange Being with A Favor to Ask
The Traveler solicits Roy’s help in recovering an object invented by his murdered father and beyond his own reach. Roy is his last hope. At first it seems that the Traveler’s wish might be easily granted. But after Roy’s wife Emily becomes ill and his daughter’s long-held resentments rise to the surface, he can no longer “travel” at a moment’s notice. He also discovers the very real physical and mental risks involved in roaming the Time Stream.

 A Dangerous Mission
Despite the dangers, Roy is determined to help the Traveler. But he can’t do it alone. Fortunately he has a loving wife and a core group of loyal friends. But first he must convince them-and his daughter-that he isn’t crazy...

My Thoughts/Review:

This book was really good. It was like nothing I have ever read before. It was different in a really good way. Time Slice is a mix of both Contemporary and Fantasy/Science Fiction writing. This book blew me away. I am the type of person that doesn't really love Contemporary but when it is mixed with fantasy I am all game because it definitely brought this book to a whole new level.

I want to take the time to explain the premise of Time Slice. Basically in a nut shell the time stream is filled with many different time slices where none of the different dimensions of sorts knows about each other. Roy the main character finds himself on an adventure to help a fellow traveler that helps bring excitement back into his life. Roy is a very likeable and relatable character. All of the characters throughout Time Slice were really likeable. You actually felt for them and what they all were going through together. There were some twists and turns that caught me off guard and I wasn't really expecting. The whole story just was perfect from the beginning to the end. I am glad that I got the opportunity to read it.

What I really loved about this book was the feeling that the author put into his writing. You can really tell that the emotions portrayed in the novel have real feeling and really struck me as I read it. Kerry Downing is a really talented writer. I was surprised at how well he could mix the two genres and make it feel completely natural and real. Time Slice is a really cool Sci-Fi book with real emotion and feeling added in. The premise that Kerry came up with is completely genius. I can acutally believe that time slices could actually exist and are real all throughout the time stream. I mean whole different worlds could be right beside us and we could never even know that they are there.

If you get a chance go out and buy this book and read it. It really took me by surprise at how good it was. I can't say enough about it. It brings about a whole new unique way to think about Time Travel.  I really loved time slice. I really wish the author could right more. I didn't want the book to end. I now really can't wait to see what else Kerry Downing can come up with and write about. =]

Overall I give this book...

A Surprisingly Unique Sci-Fi with Heart. =]

Kerry Downing's Bio:
Kerry Downing set out to become a meteorologist, but was hooked by the world of computers instead, becoming a systems analyst and programmer. Astronomy and science fiction are his passions. He’s been gazing at the stars at all hours of the night since the age of 10, when he received his first telescope. As for science fiction, Arthur C. Clarke and his brand of “it really seems as if it could happen” has always been his favorite. In the 90s, Kerry found the third love of his life: his wife, Lucy. They live in St. Louis, Missouri, with their five children. Time Slice is Kerry’s second science-fiction novel. His self-published, debut work is The Collective.

Review: Pure by Julianna Baggott

Pure

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Publication date: 2/8/2012
Pages: 431
Synopsis:
We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . .

Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.

Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .

There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it's his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.

When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again.

My Thoughts/Review:
Pure is one of the best reads I have read this year. In my opinion this is one of the most thought provoking books I have ever read. It really gets you thinking on a more emotional and deep level. Imagine a world where there have been detonations similar to an atomic bomb that changes the whole world. People are fused to objects, other people, animals and even the earth. But some people are perfectly fine and are called Pures because they made it into the dome. This novel has so many levels of depth within its pages. It has everything from conspiracies, discriminaton, a coming of age tale, and dystopian qualities. Pure was so enjoyable and different to read. All of the characters play an important part and are so unique and bring a new level of depth to the story. I really think that everyone will like this book and it will transcend generations. This book in my opinion will become a classic that later generations will enjoy.

Pure includes things that are real and could happen in real life. It really gets down to the nitty gritty and portrays how human beings act and really are. I mean the things that all of these people have to deal with are astounding. You wouldn't think that what happens in Pure could happen today but it is real and it definitely could. Julianna Baggott is such an amazing profound writer. I can not believe I haven't read anything by her before. Her writings skills are nothing I have ever experienced before. It is like she got inside my head and made me question things I wouldn't have normally questioned as I was reading this book.

I really just loved Pure for its uniqueness and the way it got to me. Pure has such an astounding affect. All of the characters flow together, the writing is simply amazing and the end is unexpectedly shocking. Pure really gets to your gut and soul and once you start reading it you won't find an excuse to put it down. Go out and buy this book because it will get to you too in a really good way. I really can't wait for the next books in this series to come out. =]

Overall I give this book...

Astounding, Profound and Unexpectedly Shocking. =]

Follow Friday(10)

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #80

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:

Q: What would your prefer: reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?

Wow this is a really tough thought provoking question. There are definite pros and cons to both. I am completely the type of person that really doesn't reread books. I don't know why I really never have. But if it was one of my favorite all time books I might keep rereading it instead of choosing the 100s of mediocre books. It is such a difficult choice. I think I would have to choose the 100's of mediocre books just because they would all give me the experience of those books and living in those worlds and learning knew things I never learned before. I couldn't keep reading my favorite book over and over again because I would get sick of it fast and I wouldn't be able to stand the monotony of it.

Let me know in the comments what your answer is and link me up.
If you follow me let me know in the comments with a link to your Follow Friday and I will follow you back. =]

Follow Friday(9)

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #80

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kickass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

The characteristic that all of my favorite books share the most would have to be Uniqueness. I don't like reading the same old same old. The books that I read have got to have some kind of element in it that is completely unique and new to me. For example the Factions in Divergent or the Tributes in The Hunger Games, etc... There has got to be something unique and interesting in each book that I read or I just can't read it. Another thing that my favorite books have in them are awesome kickass characters. The main character has to have a depth to them and I have to relate to them in someway for me to really make the book one of my favorites.

Let me know in the comments what characteristics your favorite books have. =]

If you follow me and leave a comment saying you did I will follow you back later tonight after I get home from work. =]

    Why I Can't Wait
I read the synopsis on Goodreads a while back. Ever since, I have really wanted to read it. It sounds so good. And it is already getting really great buzz about it. I love new and unique dystopians. I can't wait til it comes out. Let me know if you are excited for this and let me know in the comments what you are waiting for. I got this title from NetGalley and I am reading it right now. It is so good and really deep which is surprising me. I can't wait to find out how it ends. Pure comes out February 8th so make sure to go check it out and if you like it buy it cause Pure is awesome so far. =]
