Cover Revealed: Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

I don't know if you guys know or not but Scholastic is coming up with whole new covers for the Harry Potter Series and this week they released the new Chamber of Secrets cover.

If you haven't seen it here is the new Sorcerer's Stone cover.

I have mixed feelings about the change in covers. I really like this cover and think that the old ones could use some updating. But I also love the old covers because that is what I grew up with and it is quintessentially Harry Potter.

Anyway, without further to do.

Here is the new scholastic cover of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

My Thoughts on Chamber of Secrets Cover:

Okay, I am going to be brutally honest. I don't like this cover at all. I think it looks way to cartoony. I mean, I still like the style of it and the overall feel, it just doesn't seem magical enough and as amazing as it could be. The first, sorcerers stone one looks way more amazing then this one. Plus they choose a really boring seen to depict. Maybe it is because the original covers will always be in my heart.

What do you think of these new covers?

Let me know in the comment section and don't be afraid to be brutally honest. =]

  1. I absolutely adore the first book's new cover. I was never a fan of the old one. I agree the second book's is a little cartoony, but I love how the Weasley's house looks.

  2. I like this cover. Do I like it more than Sorcerer’s Stone? Not really and because of that I was disappointed. Like you said this cover doesn’t’ really seem to exude the feel of magic like the first book’s cover does. In Sorcerer’s Stone we have witches and wizards dressed up in robes and wearing conical hats, there is a man or whatever he is with long non-human ears, we have Hagrid the half-giant towering over all the other wizarding folks, we can see cauldrons and not to mention owls flying overhead delivering posts. It’s quite obvious what kind of book this is. There is a lot going on in the first cover and I think it portrays Diagon Alley perfectly but at the same time although a lot is happening in the cover the first thing my eyes zoom in on is Harry and Hagrid in the center.

The second cover is a lot simpler and when I first saw it was hoping that a scene from Hogwarts would have been used. Something actually having to do with the Chamber of Secrets, something a little darker because I actually thought Chamber of Secrets had a quite serious mood despite it being the second book. Or if the designers wanted to keep the cover light and inviting since it is still middle-grade at this point maybe a scene that hasn’t been done on the cover before? Iwould have liked to see the Herbology class when the students were potting the mandrakes. See them with the fluffy ear muffs holding these screaming ugly plants, maybe have one biting one student, another student covering their ears, another struggling to put his in his pot, Hermione’s bushy hair. Something a lot livelier than the flying car arriving at the burrow and it doesn’t give anything away to the plot.

Or oh! The Death Day party! I think that would have been a great scene to show because a lot could still be happening in the scene but Harry wouldn’t be lost in the cover since him Ron and Hermione would be the only characters in the scene alive and in actual colour and opaque. You could have all kinds of ghosts floating about and mingling. All dressed in fashions from different periods of time. Aww now I am more disappointed with this cover.
