Follow Friday(16)

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #80

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

This week's Question is:

Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

This is such an awesome thought provoking question. I really had to think about this one. The genre that I pick is Dystopian. Dystopian is a very new genre lately and I never even heard of it or new what is was until I read one. The first dystopian book I read was recommeded to me and was The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. I loved them so much I read them all in a row, one right after the other. Reading this series changed my total outlook on what kind of books I love to read. I absolutely love anything dystopian now. Every dystopian book so far that I have read has not disappointed at all. I am so glad I jumped genres and actually read a dystopian book because it totally changed my complete outlook on reading. =] =] =]

Let me know in the comments with a link what genre you jumped to and now love completely.

Happy Follow Friday.

Thanks for everyone who follows me, I will follow you back. =]

  2. Hopping through. I've never liked dystopia but I love Hunger Games. It didn't get me into the genre in general but made me open to trying books.

  7. Hi! Actually I only "liked" The Hunger Games. For some reason the books didn't leave me thrilled for dystopian or something. I think that feeling cae with Divergent and Insurgent and I just finished Shadow and Bone a few days ago - that's what really made me look out for dystopians!

  8. Now that you mention it, it is hard to think of a bad dystopian book. My least favourite ONE got three stars but all the others I have read have been either 4 or 5 stars. For a while I thought The Hunger Games was my first dystopian read but it turns out my first read was Uglies by Scott Westerfeld which I thought was very good but didn't know was dystopian, I just thought it was scifi (and it is but if we want to be specific then it would be called dystopian).

  10. I feel like the Dystopian genre was totally made for me. I loved it from the moment I read the Giver, Ender's Game, all the old goodies. There just weren't enough of them around. So I was so relieved when everyone started jumping on the bandwagon and the Hunger Games came out! :-)

  14. I love dystopian books, I think they're awesome but tricky to pull off. The first one I read was Uglies by Scott Westerfeld; I'd recommend it.

Thanks for stopping by, I'm a new follower :)

  15. Dystopian is my favorite genre as well, but lately I've been reading a lot of contemporary and am surprised by how much I've enjoyed them.
