Synopsis:

For the teens at The Haven, the outside world, just beyond the towering stone wall that surrounds the premises, is a dangerous unknown. It has always been this way, ever since the hospital was established in the year 2020. But The Haven is more than just a hospital; it is their home. It is all they know. Everything is strictly monitored: education, exercise, food, and rest. The rules must be followed to keep the children healthy, to help control the Disease that has cast them as Terminals, the Disease that claims limbs and lungs—and memories.

But Shiloh is different; she remembers everything. Gideon is different, too. He dreams of a cure, of rebellion against the status quo. What if everything they’ve been told is a lie? What if The Haven is not the safe place it claims to be? And what will happen if Shiloh starts asking dangerous questions?

Why I am Waiting:
Sign me up for anything with teens that is a dystopian where they have to go against society. This one sound extremely awesome with a weird hospital that might not be the safe place it claims to be. Sound very intriguing and I can't wait to read it. =]

Review: Fuse by Julianna Baggott

Fuse (Pure, #2)
Fuse by Julianna Baggott
Hardcover, 463 pages
Published February 19th 2013 by Grand Central Publishing
***Received this Book from the Publisher for a fair and honest review.
(Thank You Grand Central Publishing for the Book.)

Synopsis:

When the world ended, those who dwelled within the Dome were safe. Inside their glass world the Pures live on unscarred, while those outside—the Wretches—struggle to survive amidst the smoke and ash.

Believing his mother was living among the Wretches, Partridge escaped from the Dome to find her. Determined to regain control over his son, Willux, the leader of the Pures, unleashes a violent new attack on the Wretches. It’s up to Pressia Belze, a young woman with her own mysterious past, to decode a set of cryptic clues from the past to set the Wretches free.

An epic quest that sweeps readers into a world of beautiful brutality, Fuse continues the story of two people fighting to save their futures—and change the fate of the world.

My Thoughts/Review:

At first, I was very excited to get this book for review. But then I had conflicting thoughts because I didn't know how the story would continue and what was going to happen and if it was going to be any good. Pure ended in such a way that I really didn't know what was going to happen next. I am so happy that the book was even better than I thought it could be. The story went beyond all of my expectations.

Since I read Pure like a year ago, I had to refresh my memory of it so I reread the last few chapters of Pure to prepare to read Fuse. Sometimes I wish authors would put a little recap synopsis of the first book in there consecutive sequels. It would make remembering so much easier.

If you read Pure, then you know about Baggott's writing style. Her prose are beautiful and very thought provoking and the world she has created is such an amazing concept that it is really unthinkable. Fuse doesn't start off exactly where Pure leaves off. Since I had to jog my memory it took me a little while to get back into the swing of things in this amazing world. When the book opens up all of the characters are separated and doing there own things. Eventually, things start to happen and they all come together to go on another amazing adventure to try and gain the truth of what they need to do to help the world they live in.

Baggott really doesn't disappoint at all in Fuse. She brings out all of the stops. It has everything you would ever want in a book. It has twists and turns, excitement, adventure, danger, and an edge of your seat experience. Fuse adds greatly to the story from Pure and keeps it rolling in a very good way. You get to learn more about the seven and the mystery that is surrounding them and what Partridge and Pressia have to do to help save there world and to do what is right.

What I love about this book is all of the characters. They are so real and so deep. You can feel there struggles and there pain. You can't help but want to fall in love with them and you want them to become your friends in real life and succeed in everything they do. I felt like I entered there world and had to help them with all of there goals and struggles.

If you haven't read this series yet, you need to pick it up. Julianna Baggott is such a genius writer. I have read both books and I still don't know the direction the story is going in and with every flip of the page I get surprised and shocked with another event happening. This book series has torn at my core with how awesome it has become. This book has so much depth and so many levels and layers, with different emotions and concepts added into it. I can not wait to see how this story ends and where it will finish. The ending will be very bittersweet because I don't want it to be over. =]

Overall, I give this book:
"Adventurous, Emotional, Edge of Your Seat, Amazing Sequel."=]
5 out of 5 Stars

Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

This week's Question is:
Q: We always talk about books that WE want. Let's turn it on its head. What books have you given other people lately?

I don't really give books to people considering I don't have very many bookish friends that like reading. But I did give my mom two books to read recently that I loved. Those books are Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Both book I highly recommend. If you click the pictures the link will take you to my review of them. =]

Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4)
Inferno by Dan Brown
Hardcover, 480 pages
Expected publication: May 14th 2013 by Knopf Doubleday

Synopsis

In his international blockbusters The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown masterfully fused history, art, codes, and symbols. In this riveting new thriller, Brown returns to his element and has crafted his highest-stakes novel to date.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces . . . Dante’s Inferno.

Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust . . . before the world is irrevocably altered.

Thoughts about the cover:

I don't know if I like the cover. I like parts of it but that person with the weird circle thing around him isn't sitting right with me. My friend who looked it up told me that that person is Dante, which makes sense because it relates to Dante's Inferno. I still think they could have went in a different direction with the cover. Let me know in the comments what you think of the cover and if you can't wait to read it as much as I can't wait. =]

Review: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

Warm Bodies
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
Hardcover, USA Edition, 239 pages
Published April 26th 2011 by Atria

Synopsis:

R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse. Just dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a burst of vibrant color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that R lives in. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead and the blurry line in between.

My Thoughts/Review:

First off, I need to say that this is my very first zombie book ever. I have not read a zombie book until now. Now zombies are not really my genre but I really liked this one. It makes me want to explore the world of zombies some more. I can't wait to see what other authors have come up with to convey zombies on the page.

I loved that this book was told from a male point of view. R was a really likeable and relatable character. Even though he was a zombie he was very articulate at sharing his feelings and what he was thinking to the reader. Isaac Marion is a very talented writer and I really liked his prose and how he described things and the world he created. I really liked how this was more of an adult book instead of a young adult book. There was swearing and just plain being real in the situations that the characters had to face. I liked Julie, her personality, and how she interacted with R. There likeness of each other was slow, genuine and felt very real to me. There relationship made sense and I liked how they found each other in a controversial setting. The nuances and uniqueness of this book is really what made it for me. I really liked how Julie's ex-boyfriend Perry came into the mix and affected R's decisions. Perry really had an impact on the book that I really wasn't expecting.

The one thing I really didn't like about the book was the ending. It ended in a very good way that wraps the book up entirely. Don't get me wrong, it was a good ending that I did enjoy. It just didn't end how I wanted it to. It felt very cheesy to me and the science didn't make sense at all. I mean I get where Marion is coming from and what he wanted to achieve, it is just that I wanted the ending to be as real as the rest of the book was. I wanted more explaining in the end to wrap it up even more then it was. I was also expecting a more climax battle scene in the end and that didn't really happen. I was slightly disappointed in this book.

What made me give it a 4 out of 5 was all the small things that I loved about it. If Marion decided to write more books I could see this one book turning into many more but he didn't write it that way. This book is worth the read but if you are expecting a lot from it you will probably get your hopes shattered. If you lower your expectations a little I am sure you will really like this book. I do recommend it to everyone that likes a good love story mixed with zombies. I now really can't wait to go see the movie adaption. I have a feeling it might be very different from the book but I can't wait to see what they have come up with. Definitely read this book if you think you will like it. I am still very glad that I read it and liked the ending even though I was disappointed somewhat. =]

Since I wrote my review I went and saw the movie in theaters and I just want to talk a little about it. There were some parts of the movie that I thought were different and little better than the book. Likewise, I thought some parts of the book were better than the movie. The ending was definitely better in the movie then in the book. The movie does a better job at explaining the ending that I think Marion wanted to portray in his book. If you want to read the book or want to see the movie, I really suggest doing so, because it is worth it to read/see it at the theaters. =]

Overall, I give this book:

"Thrilling love story that just happens to include Zombies" =]
4 out of 5 Stars

Review: The Ash-Born Boy by Victoria Schwab

The Ash-Born Boy (The Near Witch, #0.5)
The Ash-Born Boy
ebook, 61 pages
Published May 15th 2012 by Hyperion

Synopsis:

Before he came to Near...
Before he met Lexi...
Before they faced the witch...
Who was the boy named Cole?

Follow us to Dale, a city on a hill, where in a matter of days fire will devour everything. Meet the Lord and Lady, and their son, the boy destined to inherit all...until everything turns to ash.

It's time to learn the truth behind the stranger's story.

My Thoughts/Review:

This was another great story from Victoria Schwab. It really dives into the backstory of Cole aka William. It is a side you don't get enough of from The Near Witch. You get to learn really why Cole is the way he is and how he comes into his powers and what exactly it is that makes him that powerful. I loved getting inside his head and learning about his personality some more. It was so great to read about his story and learn about what he had to go through to get him to the point where he enters into Lexi's story.

Once again, I fell in love with Schwab's writing and the world she has created. This story makes me want a sequel to The Near Witch so badly. If you have read The Near Witch, I definitely suggest you read this free short story. It is completely required that you do so. It is totally worth the dive back into the world of The Near Witch. I really loved reading Schwab's prose again, I can't wait to read her other book The Archived. So go check it out, the story is free and you can't beat that. =]

Overall, I give this book:

Review: As They Slip Away by Beth Revis

As They Slip Away (Across the Universe, #0.5)
As They Slip Away by Beth Revis
Ebook, 48 pages
Published January 11th 2013

Synopsis:

Taking place on the spaceship Godspeed before Amy Martin wakes up and Elder takes leadership, this novella describes life at the Hospital during Eldest's reign. Focusing primarily on background characters, readers will see fan-favorite characters Harley, Orion, Victria, and more.

Selene is a singer on a spaceship that only values people who can provide important skills that enhance survival. As her friends--fellow "loons" in the Hospital--start to join apprenticeships to turn their skills into valuable labor, Selene is sent with a handful of other students to learn about the importance of art from the Recorder, Orion. The assignment pairs her with a young sculptor, Luthor, and their dangerous romance proves just how terrifying living trapped on a spaceship under the rule of a heartless dictator could be.

This tragic tale explores the background of a previously unknown character, linking the history of the ship and its residents to Amy and Elder, giving depth to the world of Godspeed.

My Thoughts/Review:

I am so glad that Beth Revis told this short story. It added to the Across the Universe series immensely. I enjoyed it thoroughly. This story tells the story of Selene, one of the background characters on the ship Godspeed. You can read it if you haven't read A Million Suns, there are no spoilers in it at all. You really get a sense of who Selene is and what her story is. If you read Across the Universe and A Million Suns, you know what happens to Selene, and this story connects the dots even more. I loved how Revis showed how art came alive on the ship for the characters at the hospital and how it eventually lead to the ending of Selene's story. I also really liked how you really got to know the other supporting character in the hospital and you get to understand why they are there and what there interests are. You also get to learn why Luthor is the way that he is.  If you love the Across the Universe series, you definitely need to read this story. It makes the whole series more complete. Its free so there is no excuse not to read it. So go read it. =]
